This is by far my boys favorite whole wheat honey bread recipe. LOVE the smell of fresh baking bread all through the house. I find my family will eat the entire loaf at dinner and enjoy it best hot out of the oven. This recipe makes one loaf but you can easily double the recipe to make 2.
1 1/2 cups warm water
1/2 cups honey
1 1/2 tablespoons dry milk powder
2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast
2 1/4 teaspoons salt
2 1/4 tablespoons butter
1 1/2 better for bread white flour
3 cups whole wheat flour
I always like to grind wheat for fresh whole wheat flour. Store bought wheat flour works fine as well. Dump warm water in mixer bowl. Add yeast and let it sit until it begins to soften and grow. Add honey, dry milk powder, salt, butter, and wheat flour. Mix with a dough hook attachment until ingredients are blended and bread dough is very sticky. Add white bread flour. Mix until dough pulls away entirely from edges of the bowl.
If dough is too sticky add a little more flour 1/4 cup at a time until dough is smooth. Remove from mixer. Knead a few times. Shape loaf into a disc. Fold two opposite sides in and place seam down in a greased bread pan. Let rise until double. Cook for 50-60 min. in a preheated 350 degree oven. Top will be golden brown. Slice and enjoy!
